this is the ideal I got when watchin ALIEN. Toph vs ALIEN. this picture shows the Alien fighting Toph Beifong. the fight shows a noticable shot with the Alien's tail wrapped around Toph's waist. its foot is pressed against her chest, and Toph preparing to knock the daylights out of the Alien as she is seen with her fist backed up.

Now this depends on the environment. If they are in a place where they are on solid firm ground, Toph has the advantage. if they are in an alien hive however, where the ground is far more unstable and irregular, Toph's senses would get confused and... well we may see an earth bending alien in the near future.
